The Tofino-Long Beach Chamber of Commerce (TLBCC) will be seeking input from local businesses in conjunction with the launch of the new Tofino Business Retention & Expansion (BRE) pilot project. The BRE project, with funding from the Island Coastal Economic Trust and the Chamber, involves in-person interviews with local business owners and managers on a variety of topics related to doing business in Tofino.

The BRE project will be gathering information and analyzing challenges that face local businesses, in an effort to both inform all levels of government and pursue achievable solutions. All results will be aggregated, so individual responses will be kept confidential.

“The BRE business survey project is the first of its kind in Tofino and will allow us to hear directly from local business owners and managers," said Jen Dart, the TLBCC's Executive Director. "Not only will it provide baseline data that we can track in subsequent years, but it will also allow us to use this information to benefit the business community as a whole."

These interviews will be conducted in person by one of two Business Advisors, hired temporarily for this purpose. Over the next month they will be contacting local businesses and meeting with owners and managers in person to conduct a survey the Chamber has developed with the help of local partners.

Subjects covered in the survey include the labour market, staff housing, local services, and barriers to growth.

Businesses will be contacted to set appointments to facilitate discussions. The meeting to conduct the survey should take approximately 45 minutes to one hour. Meetings can be done in person at your business, another location, or online via Zoom.
